Nagata’s Conjecture and Countably Compactifications in Generic Extensions

چکیده
Nagata conjectured that everyM -space is homeomorphic to a closed subspace of the product of a countably compact space and a metric space. This conjecture was refuted by Burke and van Douwen, and A. Kato, independently. However, we can show that there is a c.c.c. poset P of size 2 such that in V P Nagata’s conjecture holds for each first countable regular space from the ground model (i.e. if a first countable regular space X ∈ V is an M -space in V P then it is homeomorphic to a closed subspace of the product of a countably compact space and a metric space in V P ). In fact, we show that every first countable regular space from the ground model has a first countable countably compact extension in V P , and then apply some results of Morita. As a corollary, we obtain that every first countable regular space from the ground model has a maximal first countable extension in model V P .

Variations on Nagata’s Conjecture
Here we discuss some variations of Nagata’s conjecture on linear systems of plane curves. The most relevant concerns non-effectivity (hence nefness) of certain rays, which we call good rays, in the Mori cone of the blowup Xn of the plane at n ≥ 10 general points. Nagata’s original result was the existence of a good ray for Xn with n ≥ 16 a square number. Using degenerations, we give examples of...
متن کاملShestakov-Umirbaev reductions and Nagata’s conjecture on a polynomial automorphism
In 2003, Shestakov-Umirbaev solved Nagata’s conjecture on an automorphism of a polynomial ring. In the present paper, we reconstruct their theory by using the “generalized Shestakov-Umirbaev inequality”, which was recently given by the author. As a consequence, we obtain a more precise tameness criterion for polynomial automorphisms. In particular, we deduce that no tame automorphism of a polyn...

متن کاملOn Nagata’s conjecture
T. Szemberg proposed in 2001 a generalization to arbitrary varieties of M. Nagata’s 1959 open conjecture, which claims that the Seshadri constant of r ≥ 9 very general points of the projective plane is maximal. Here we prove that Nagata’s original cojecture implies Szemberg’s for all smooth surfaces X with an ample divisor L generating NS(X) and such that L is a square. More generally, we prove...
متن کاملOn O-minimality of Extensions of R by Restricted Generic Smooth Functions
It is shown that the extension of R by a generic smooth function restricted to the unit cube is o-minimal. The generalization to countably many generic smooth functions is indicated. Possible applications are sketched.
